Shift the Narrative: Find Joy in Movement, No Matter Your Age or Ability
Shift the Narrative:
Find Joy in Movement, No Matter Your Age or Ability
It’s time to shift the narrative around fitness!
For too long, exercise has been associated with punishing workouts, pushing yourself to the limit, or checking it off a to-do list. But here’s the truth: fitness is about finding joy in movement that makes YOU feel good. It’s about saying goodbye to workouts that leave you feeling drained and hello to exercises that empower you, making you feel strong, confident, and alive.
Whether you’re looking to improve your body image and mental health, recovering from back pain, dealing with arthritis or just looking to be healthier, fitness should never feel like a chore. It’s a celebration of everything your body can do, at any age or ability.
My Fitness Journey from Calisthenics to Weight-Training
When I first started working out, I had no idea about fitness. I had no clue how to build a workout plan or structure a whole training program.
At the time, I was inspired by women who excelled at calisthenics, which only uses your body, the floor, and a bar. These functional training exercises were captivating to me, but as I continued to train, I found myself more motivated by weight training.
Weight training became my focus because it made me feel strong—and it felt good. Over time, however, I noticed I had lost some of the calisthenics skills I had worked so hard to develop. So now, I’m blending my old favorites into my training routine again, adding a balance of strength training with corrective exercises to keep my body flexible and functional.
Exercise Should Be a Celebration of Your Body’s Strength
Exercise is not about punishing yourself. It’s a celebration of what your body can do. Whether it’s an endurance session that makes your heart race, a serene yoga flow that improves flexibility, or a strength training session that empowers you — find what lights you up and makes you feel fantastic.
The truth is, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to fitness, especially for women over 50, 60, or older. Fitness should be personalized, customized to fit your unique needs. If you’re living with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, or degenerative disc issues, a holistic approach to exercise can help you manage pain while improving strength, energy, and mobility.
Exploring different types of exercise will help you discover what feels best for your body. Strength training, TRX suspension training, HIIT, and functional training can all contribute to building strength and improving mental health, while reducing the risk of injury and supporting rehab and prehab (preventing injury before it happens).
Fitness for Women: Boosting Confidence and Mental Health
Fitness isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about feeling strong and empowered no matter your age or where you’re starting from.
Exercise is also essential for mental health and body positivity. Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with chronic pain like low back pain, or working to improve your body image, movement has the power to enhance your confidence and boost your self-esteem. Fitness isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about feeling strong and empowered no matter your age or where you’re starting from.
For women over 50, over 60, or anyone dealing with rheumatological conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, the right kind of exercise program is essential for maintaining mobility, improving joint health, and managing symptoms. Nutrition and a tailored rehabilitation program can also complement your fitness routine to help you get stronger, recover faster, and feel more energized.
As you work toward your fitness goals, having accountability—whether through one-on-one sessions in a private studio or with a certified personal trainer—can be a key motivator. Having that support helps keep you on track and ensures your program is effective and safe.
